Fire extinguishers must be properly installed and maintained. The Ontario Fire Code requires that all fire extinguishers be inspected monthly. The extinguisher tag must show a record of the monthly inspections unless an approved recording keeping system is in use.
Pressurized-water extinguishers must be hydrostatically test once every five years. Dry-chemical extinguishers must be hydrostatically tested every twelve years and have a six-year maintenance service done in between that.
